Description:
This is a traditional Japanese samurai helmet (kabuto) with an accompanying face mask (menpo), dating from the Edo Period. The helmet is made of iron, featuring a riveted multi-plate construction typical of the period, with radiating lines on the bowl. The side wings (fukigaeshi) display gilt family crests (mon). The menpo is lacquered, with a red accent along the rim, and attached throat guard (yodare-kake) of laced iron and fabric.
