Presentation Script
Presenting this pair of Chinese iron-mounted hardwood doors. These impressive architectural elements feature heavy iron straps, domed bosses, and cast iron lion-mask ring handles. Constructed from thick hardwood, possibly elm, they reflect traditional Chinese courtyard or temple design. While the style points to the Qing Dynasty, the uniform weathering and iron condition suggest a late 19th or 20th-century origin. They show significant wear and losses, adding to their rustic character. As highly decorative architectural salvage, they carry an auction estimate of $500 to $1,500. A striking addition to any interior or garden space.

Description:
A pair of large, heavy wooden doors, likely elm or a similar hardwood, heavily mounted with iron hardware. The doors feature horizontal iron straps secured with large, domed iron bosses. Each door is fitted with a large cast iron lion-mask ring handle (bixi). The corners and central meeting edges are reinforced with shaped iron plates. A sliding iron latch secures the doors in the center. The wood shows significant wear, weathering, and losses, particularly along the top edge of the right door.

Assessment:
These doors present an impressive, rustic appearance typical of traditional Chinese courtyard or temple doors. The heavy iron mounts, including the lion-mask handles and numerous bosses, are characteristic of Qing dynasty defensive and decorative architectural elements. However, the overall condition, while showing wear and weathering, suggests they may be a later 19th or 20th-century construction utilizing traditional methods, or perhaps older doors that have been heavily restored or re-mounted. The ironwork, while substantial, lacks the deep, uneven pitting and oxidation often seen on genuine 17th or 18th-century exterior iron. The wood surface appears somewhat uniformly weathered, which can sometimes indicate artificial aging or exposure to elements over a shorter period than centuries. They remain highly decorative and substantial architectural salvage pieces.

The form, materials, and hardware clearly identify these as traditional Chinese architectural doors.
Authenticity Score: 60%
While the style is accurate, the uniformity of the weathering and the condition of the ironwork suggest they may not be as old as the style implies, possibly late 19th or 20th-century constructions or heavily restored older pieces.
