This is a large, visually striking altar or scholar's table crafted from richly grained huanghuali wood, accented with natural stag antlers as structural and decorative elements. The piece features elaborate openwork and relief-carved cloud motifs, a prominent dragon head crest, and a back panel with finely carved Chinese calligraphy. The overall construction and the materials are inspired by late Qing imperial court furniture, but the extremely vivid coloration, technical sharpness of the carving, newness of wood, and overall 'fantasy' design firmly place it as a modern, high-end decorative piece. The table top and accompanying footrest/step display dramatic, swirling huanghuali grain. A word about fakes... The Chinese market is replete with high-quality replica furniture simulating imperial or high scholarly taste. This piece is, by every indication, a recent workshop creation crafted for the decorative and luxury market — not a period Qing or Ming dynasty altar table. The wood is huanghuali or a close substitute, and the antler elements are skillfully incorporated, but the elaborate and flawless carving, perfect lacquered finish, inscription style, and unblemished appearance are hallmarks of modern manufacture. The dramatic design, with its fantasy-like dragon head crest, would have been unprecedented in true Qing court context. As such, it is best understood as an ambitious and well-made homage, valuable as a decorative statement, but not as an antique. Image Memory Note
The object is a two-part Chinese-style altar table consisting of a main table and a matching footrest/step. The main frame uses large, natural stag antlers set as side supports and structural arches. The tabletop and step/footrest feature strongly figured huanghuali wood planks with swirling, orangey-brown and darker brown grain. The rear of the table is set with a raised, elaborately carved dragon head crest, underlain with swirling cloud carving motifs. Below the dragon crest, a back splashboard is set within antler uprights and carved with a grid of 7 columns by 5 rows (approx.) of regular script Chinese characters. The carving on the back panel reads: '装端设案，供顶尊者，双犄龙纹器。又七年，九月初四。' (incomplete, as some characters are obscured by the frame and antlers). No evident makers mark, sticker, date, or Western numerals are visible. Condition is flawless, wood is lustrous and unaged, antlers show no patina. All corners, feet, and joints appear sharp and unworn. 物件为中式供桌二件套，包括主桌和脚踏。桌架采用天然鹿角作为支撑及拱门结构，桌面和脚踏板均为黄花梨板材，纹理清晰、色泽鲜明。桌背设有高浮雕龙首，配祥云纹饰。龙首下为背板铭文区，约7行5列阴刻楷书，内容为：“装端设案，供顶尊者，双犄龙纹器。又七年，九月初四。”（受结构遮挡部分文字不全）。无可见工匠款识、标签或西文标记。整体无损，木色明丽，鹿角无包浆，结构部位无磨损。
