Description:
This is a traditional Japanese samurai helmet (kabuto) paired with a menpo (face mask), both made primarily of iron. The kabuto features a multi-plate, riveted construction with vertical ridges and fukigaeshi (wing-like projections) adorned with gilt family crests (kamon). The menpo (facial armor) is lacquered and includes a throat guard (yodare-kake) formed by horizontal lames laced with silk. Such sets would have been worn by a high-ranking samurai during the Edo period. Kabuto were both functional for protection and richly symbolic.
