Description:

A rectangular lift-top blanket chest on an applied base with two working drawers and shaped bracket feet with pierced returns. The case shows large, slightly irregular hand-cut dovetails at the corners, a molded top edge, and an old red-brown painted surface. Brass bail pulls on the drawers appear to be later replacements. An oval paper label remnant is affixed to the front.

The surface shows expected abrasion and dry paint consistent with age; hardware likely 19th-century replacements, which is common and does not negate period manufacture. Fakery check: proportions, tool marks, and dovetail geometry do not suggest a modern reproduction; no machine-cut joinery is evident. A word about fakes..
