Description:
This is a traditional Japanese samurai helmet (kabuto) with an attached menpo (face mask) featuring a detachable throat guard. The kabuto displays a multi-plate (suji-bachi) construction with pronounced vertical ribs, copper or iron alloys, and decorative crest medallions mounted on the sides. The menpo is lacquered with a fine black finish and has a red interior rim, typical of period menpo designs. The side guards (shikoro) are laced with blue silk cord, adding both flexibility and aesthetic detail. Such sets were worn by high-ranking samurai for ceremonial as well as combat use during the Edo period.
