Original Presentation Script
Behold the Chinese Kangxi Style Blue and White Porcelain Vase—a symphony in porcelain, echoing the allure of a long-gone era. Its classic, bulbous form and gracefully elongated neck beckon us into a world of Qing dynasty aesthetics, where beauty meets reverence in artistic homage. Painted in ethereal hues of underglaze cobalt, the vase depicts the Laughing Buddha, surrounded by auspicious emblems, capturing the eternal dialogue between spirituality and art. The inscriptions tell of the illustrious Kangxi reign, invoking the imperial gravitas that once commanded artistic innovation and cultural flourishing. But this piece, though it wears a regal veneer, is a product of the modern revival—created in the latter half of the 20th century, it is but a spirited evocation of those august days. Porcelain, pristine and pure, forms its body—an immaculate canvas for the cobalt oxide's serene blues. Unlike the genuine hand-thrown creations of old, this vase owes its existence to the efficiencies of contemporary production; each line and detail precisely machined, the hallmark of mass-production ingenuity. As we examine its condition, the impeccable glaze and artificially aged base reveal a story of recent manufacture. There are no tell-tale signs of time's touch—no subtle cracks or softened edges speak of centuries past. This pristine state, while striking, underscores a modern tale. Authenticity, that ephemeral whisper, scores a mere ten percent. Despite the ambitious marks and motifs, the evidence of recent craftsmanship tells a different tale. Auction estimates range between $80 and $200—a decorative delight, yet not the treasure of true antiquity. It may not carry the weight of history, but it carries the promise of decorative charm—we leave it, inscribed in porcelain and imagination.

Description:
This is a Chinese blue and white porcelain vase featuring a bulbous lower body and long neck flaring at the rim. The main decoration is hand-painted in underglaze blue, depicting Buddhist figures (likely Budai/Laughing Buddha) and auspicious objects. The vase has a border of geometric and floral patterns at the shoulder and rim. Chinese calligraphy inscriptions are visible on the body, and the base is marked in underglaze blue with a six-character Kangxi reign mark ('大清康熙年制'), standard for the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, but the painting quality, glaze, shape, and mark style all suggest a much later date.

Assessment:
A word about fakes... The vase displays typical features of Kangxi-era porcelain, but clear signs—in particular, the perfectly clean and glossy glaze, reproduction-level calligraphy, modern painting quality of the figures, and the spurious Kangxi six-character base mark—strongly indicate it is a recent reproduction rather than of the actual Qing period. Such pieces are widely produced for both domestic Chinese markets and export, and genuine Kangxi vases of this type would fetch many thousands at auction. The decorative and cultural value remains, but collectors value it primarily as a decorative piece. And that's etched in Jade..! And that's etched in Jade..!
Individual Images:
- Detail images confirm the regular
- unblemished surface of glaze
- the artificial 'aging' at the foot rim
- and the mechanically precise Kangxi six-character reign mark at the base. Closeups show modern brushwork and relatively shallow foot rim wear
- consistent with recent manufacture.
Provenance:
No provenance documentation or historical photos are included.
Condition:
Excellent (no visible cracks, chips, or restoration; glossy modern glaze)
Identification Score: 98%
The shape, decoration, reign mark, and overall composition leave little doubt: this is a Kangxi revival blue and white vase in the Budai motif, very commonly produced in the late 20th century onward.
Authenticity Score: 10%
Extremely low authenticity score: despite the Kangxi mark, the glaze, painting, and calligraphy are all consistent with contemporary manufacturing. The base mark is mechanically painted in a way that is far more regular than period originals, which were hand-written. There are none of the age-related crackles, wear, or glaze contraction spots typical of genuine Kangxi porcelains. The color of the cobalt is also too uniform and lacks the vibrant inky depth of true 18th-century wares.
Image Memory Note
The object is a bulbous blue and white porcelain vase (likely about 30-40 cm high), with a long neck and flared rim. The decoration is underglaze blue, depicting Budai/Laughing Buddha holding beads, surrounded by auspicious clouds and objects. A border of repeating geometric and floral patterns encircles the neck and shoulder. Chinese calligraphy inscriptions are present on the body near the figures. The base features a six-character Kangxi reign mark in regular script reading '大清康熙年制' (Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi), neatly painted in underglaze blue. The base foot rim has some slight, uniform 'aging' marks, possibly applied for effect. The glaze is bright, shiny, and clear, without the subtle imperfections, firing flaws or age-related patina typical of authentic Kangxi ware. No cracks or chips observed. No additional provenance images, stickers, or labels.
