Description:
Small porcelain bowl (c. 6 in / 15 cm diameter) with everted rim and shallow rounded sides. Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a greyish-white glaze. Interior center shows a freely painted floral spray with scrolling foliage; cavetto with continuous ruyi-like cloud scrolls; rim band of stylized leaves or waves. Exterior densely filled with tight spiral ‘lotus pond’ or ‘fish roe’ pattern above a band of upright petal lappets. Unglazed footrim with slightly buff body; base glazed and unmarked. Several hairline cracks and rim fritting visible, with kiln grit and pinholes in the glaze.

Age-style wear, such as rim fritting and hairlines, appears credible but could result from use rather than centuries of oxidation. A word about fakes.. late-Ming blue-and-white is heavily reproduced, and kiln copies are ubiquitous in today’s market, so caution is essential. On balance I consider this a modern reproduction made in homage to Ming export designs, decorative and collectible but not of the period.
