Description:

Fold-over card table in the Federal/Regency idiom with a rectangular top that rotates and opens on a center hinge. The pedestal is a carved lyre with applied brass 'strings,' set on a quadripartite platform with splayed saber legs terminating in brass toe caps and casters. Carved rosettes and acanthus details throughout; mahogany solids and veneers.

The uniformly even finish, very crisp and symmetrical carving, bright brass strings and hinge, and modern-looking casters suggest a later revival piece rather than a period (c.1815–1830) original. As a decorative and functional game table it has good presence. Fakery check: A word about fakes.. In this category (Federal/Regency style furniture) reproductions are extremely common; period pieces usually show hand-tool irregularities, oxidation on brass, shrinkage cracks, and more varied patina—features not clearly present here.
